Five CESA 12 school districts, fielding 10 teams, participated in the Battle of the Books competition on Tuesday, May 13 at Northwood Tech in Ashland. The participating districts were Drummond (2 teams), Hayward (3 teams), Mellen, South Shore (2 teams) and Washburn (3 teams). The Battle of the Books is a student competition open to all districts in CESA 12. At the beginning of each school year, the districts that elected to participate in the competition select students from grades 4-8 to read 20 books during the school year, preparing for the Battle of the Books competition held in May each year. The Battle of the Books is a trivia format event with the top three teams being recognized. Our winner for this year's competition is Hayward (Team 1) As a result of a tie score for the second and third place finishers, an additional tiebreaker round determined Hayward (Team 2) as the second place finisher, and Washburn (team 1) finishing third. Congratulations Hayward (Team 1), Hayward (Team 2) and Washburn (Team 1). And thank you to all the districts and students that participated in this school-year long event.
