Seven CESA 12 school districts, fielding 14 teams, participated in the Battle of the Books competition on Thursday, May 7 at Vaughn Public Library in Ashland in their fabulous new event space. What better place to have this competition than at the library. The participating districts were Bayfield (2 teams), Drummond, Hayward, Mellen, South Shore (4 teams), Washburn (4 teams) and Winter.
The Battle of the Books is a student competition open to all districts in CESA 12. At the beginning of each school year, the districts that elected to participate in the competition select students from grades 4-8 to read 20 books during the school year, preparing for the Battle of the Books competition held in May each year. The Battle of the Books is a trivia format event with the top three teams being recognized.
Our winner for this year's competition was South Shore Team 1. Placing second was Washburn Team 4 and our third place finisher was Drummond.
Congratulations South Shore Team 1, Washburn Team 4 and Drummond. And a BIG thank you to all the districts and students that participated in this school-year long event. And many thanks to the Vaughn Library for their assistance in a successful event.

Drummond School District is proud to highlight Brianna and an incredible collaboration between the Northwest Wisconsin Workforce Investment Board (NWWIB), the FORWD program, and Youth Apprenticeship that is creating meaningful opportunities for students while helping address workforce needs in rural schools.
Thank you to Mrs. Narges and Mrs. Renz for supporting this partnership and helping create opportunities for students to explore careers in education.
One Drummond senior has spent the past year working in an early childhood classroom, gaining valuable hands-on experience and building important skills for a future career in education. Through this partnership, she is now able to continue that work as a paid employee while enrolling in Youth Apprenticeship to earn credit and further develop her pathway toward becoming an educator.
This is a huge win for students, schools, and the community.
Experiences like these are made possible through supportive teachers, counselors, workforce partners, and schools that believe in investing in students and creating real world learning opportunities.
Please join us in celebrating the educators, mentors, and partnerships helping grow future teachers right here in rural Wisconsin.

Today was such a special moment at Little Lights as Hurley School District Youth Apprentice Addie arrived in her cap and gown to read Will the Pigeon Graduate? to the preschoolers. The excitement, smiles, and little faces looking up at her captured exactly why experiences like Youth Apprenticeship matter so much. 🌟📚
Addie has grown into an amazing role model, building meaningful connections with children while gaining real-world experience in Early Childhood Education through the Youth Apprenticeship program. Her passion, patience, and kindness have made a lasting impact on both the students and staff at Little Lights.
As she prepares for her next chapter this fall pursuing Elementary Education in college, we celebrate not only her accomplishments, but the partnerships between Hurley School District, Little Lights, families, and employers that help students explore careers, build skills, and inspire the next generation. 🍎✨
The best part? Little Lights still gets Addie through the summer! ☀️💛
Please join us in congratulating Addison and celebrating the power of Youth Apprenticeship during Teacher Appreciation Week! 🎓👏

The PSA event target audience is for students grades 4-8, and is funded by the Gifted and Talented grant .

CESA 12 is proud to spotlight Ashland High School and their Youth Apprenticeship Future Fridays at AMS.
Ashland High School seniors and Youth Apprentices, Kylie Anderson and Paula VanVlack, recently connected with AMS students to share their positive experiences in the Youth Apprenticeship program. They highlighted the value of hands on learning, the development of real world skills, and the opportunity to explore potential career paths.
Kylie and Paula also encouraged students to look ahead with excitement to the many opportunities available through the program as they enter their junior and senior years. Thank you for inspiring futures!

CESA 12 would like to recognize the Ashland High School coordinators and mentors who came together to build and support a strong Youth Apprenticeship program for their students.
The Ashland Youth Apprenticeship Program proudly hosted its 2nd Annual Youth Apprenticeship Celebration Brunch on April 17 at The Local. The event brought together apprentices, their parents and guardians, and employer partners for a morning filled with a wonderful brunch, meaningful conversations, and plenty of laughter. It was a special time to celebrate the dedication and achievements of students and the strong support system behind them.
A special thank you to Coordinators Heather Pritzl and Nancy Larson for their dedication and leadership in growing the program. Their hard work and commitment over the past two years have made a meaningful impact, and it is exciting to see the continued success and progress of the program.
