Speech & Language
There were approximately 50,000 students identified as having a speech and language disability in Wisconsin during the 2003-2004 school year.
The specific eligibility criteria for speech and language under state law is found at PI 11.36 (5) of the Wisconsin Administrative Code.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has developed a technical assistance guide to assist IEP teams in evaluating children to determine if they have speech and language impairment and need for special education due to the impairment.
