Positive Behavior Intervention & Support (PBIS)

What is PBIS?

PBIS is a broad range of proactive, systemic, and individualized strategies for achieving important social and learning outcomes in safe and effective environments while preventing problembehavior with all students (George Sugai, 2007)

PBIS works because it helps students understand what is expected of them, gives teachers a framework for acknowledgement and consequences and enables administrators to use data –rather than gut reactions – to make decisions about discipline.

CESA 12 offers the following PBIS services:
  • External Coaching:  Includes guidance and training to school-district teams throughout the PBIS implementation process
  • SWIS Facilitation:  Information and technical assistance for using the School-Wide Information System, a subscription service for tracking office discipline referrals.
  • PBIS Networking Meetings:  includes professional development and updated information from the WIsconsin PBIS Center
  • PBISApps Support:  Assistance in setting up an account with PBISApps for online data collection around PBIS, including progress monitoring.  View the new PBISApps website at: www.pbisapps.org
